newborn session tips

These are some great tips to help your newborn photo session go smoother:
  • Call your photographer as soon as you can after you deliver so you can arrange a time for the session. Usually, session should take place within 5-10 days after birth and no longer than 2 weeks after to get really great newborn pictures.
  • It's best to do the session in a place that baby is comfortable. Know where you want to have the pictures taken. If you are wanting some in the nursery, I will come to your home and take them.
  • We want to make sure the baby is comfortable. If we do the session in your own home, make sure its a good temperature. you want the thermostat set around 80-85. For the adults it will be hot, but the baby will be toasty and happy.
  • Know what props you want to use before hand. I will bring some if needed but have an idea of what you want. Is there a blanket or toy that you are particularly interested in having in the photos? Have them ready before the shoot.
  • Natural lighting is best, If you want the photos taken at your home, Find a place with a nice window and have the curtains open to let the light in.
  • Know weather or not you want to be in any of the pictures before hand.
  • Make sure the baby has eaten well and happy before the session. We can take small breaks to let the baby eat if needed but its best if they eat before hand.
  • I take my time to make sure we get the best pictures possible. If the baby starts to get fussy, it's ok. We can take a break and try to relax him/her again or, if you want to get crying pictures, as some people like them, we will work with what the baby is going to give us.
  • I want you to be just as comfortable as the baby. If you want a certain pose, or you don't like a pose I want to use, feel free to let me know. These are pictures you are paying for and that you will be hanging in your house. I want you to get your time and money's worth.
  • Try not to stress before or during the session. That usually doesn't help the session go any smoother.
  • You can use as many outfits as you would like. This helps gives you a good variety of pictures to choose from.
  • If you want to do naked pictures of the baby, that's just fine. Make sure you loosen the diaper 10 or so minutes before so we can get rid of the diaper lines.
